Details of New music this month, the current schedule of playlists (the default between specific playlists is a random selection from all available tracks) and some changes to the website.

Firstly an important item - we are approaching a financial crunch as the PRS and PPL licences fall due. We will be launching an appeal specifically to cover these costs later this month with some extra encouragement thrown in. Details will be in the next Wreckers Radio email (probably not until I am back from an Irish road trip in mid-May, RCO) .

In the meantime you can, of course, buy us a coffee to keep us going.

New Music

listed by artist alphabetically

  • Bob Fox - venerable "pitman poet" recently visited the area and still a brilliat performer live. Tracks from two of his albums in the playlist - Dreams Never leave You and Borrowed Moments (2003)
  • Cole Stacey - Versatile, visceral, lyrical, singer songwriter. Played Dartmoor Tours Festival at end of April and coming back to Calstock Arts Centre in September. A couple of tracks from the "Live at St.Nicholas Priory" album now in the playlist.
  • Craven - trio from Wales playing a mix of trad folk with a new twist and original material. Tracks from their original EP on WreckersRadio. They are now touring with there new album to be released later this year
  • Fairport Convention - should need no introduction here. They are coming back West of the Exe in the autumn so we thought to include their lbum from last autumn's tour (which passed us by) "Roadworks" now in the general playlist.
  • Jenn Butterworth - brilliant Scottish folk singer has played with many greats for Fairport to The Treacherous Orchestra we thought it worth featuring her debut solo album "Her By Design"
  • The Bar Derelicts - duo from Boscastle arose phoenix like from the ashes of Tinkers Cuss now on their way up. Their new 6 track album "The All Square Sessions" is now in the playlist. Catch them on Sunday midday at the Kindred Spirits festival.
  • The Kit Hillbillies - from Kit Hill of course. Cornish Bluegrass often found around the Tamar Valley and occasionally venturing across to Devon. Great fun live. Check out their track "I've been everywhre too" which namechecks a lot of our obscure places.
  • Toby Webb - singer songwriter from Falmouth, singing and writing songs about his local county ,influenced by the local Shanty scene.  A couple of tracks now in the playlist
  • Track Dogs - Folk - Americana - Roots. Sunshine-y songs thriving on dark themes behind irresistible rhythms. Only one track in the playlist so far but coming West-the-Exe for 4 gigs of their 20th anniversary tour in June, so expect more tracks to arrive in May.
  • Windjammer - trio from Plymouth been around since 2015. Playing trad folk songs from diverse sources and new songs. The double-a side single Unquiet Grave/Bowerman is in the playlist. We will be featuring their full album in May.

All of the above appear in the "New Wreckers" playlist which plays a random selection at certain times - see below

Schedule

some changes and tweaks

  • WhatsOn - Sun 6 pm repeated Mon & Tues 11 am & and 6 pm.
  •  New Locally Live segment - Weds-Sat 11 am & 6 pm for up to 45 minutes. A selection of tracks from artists playing locally in the next couple of weeks following on from the Monday-Tuesday repeats of the WhatsOn listing programmes. You'll also find the next 10 days notified gigs on the website in the left sidebar (or below the main content on moble devices). There'll be a dedicated gig/session/festival calendar page launching this month.
  • New Wreckers - 45 mins a day starting at 7 am on Monday and getting 3 hrs later each day. A random selection of tracks by artists recently added to the default playlist - all of those listed above plus new ones as they are added.  Usually about 4 hours of music so it may take several days till it repeats.
  • Elders & Classics - does what it says in the title - music recorded before 1990, a random selection every day for only half an hour at a time (because, like fine wine, you can have too much of a good thing) at 3am every day, and on Mon,Wed,Sat,Sun at 9am, Tues,Thurs, Sat at 3pm
Website Changes

Under the main menu (the 3 bar menu if you are on a mobile) you will find a new section "Music". This gives access to three views of the database of music on the station

  • Artists - a complete list of all the artists in the playlist which you can search or filter to find specific items. For each artist there is a list of song (ones that we use in the general default playlist - not everything they've ever done) and albums. Albums will be listed even if we only carry one or two tracks from them.
  • Songs - a list of all the songs we have with the artists whose recordings we have. This is also searchable and can be filtered by initial letter of the name. Note some songs have alternative titles used by different artists, and tunes with in a medley are not always broken out into separate songs - we're working on that...
  • Albums - a gallery of album covers, by default randomly sorted but youcan order by title or search for a word in the title. Click on the cover image to get details of the tracxks we have from the album.

The underlying data beyond the title of each element is far from complete and is slowly getting filled in as time and tide allows. One day it will be nearly complete, but not even dreckly, and it'll never be fully complete as new stuff continually gets added.

Moble users will not see the full dataset anyway - basically they just get the list of titles/names as your silly little screens are too small for more detail. Tablet users get more (expecially if in landscape mode)  but the full view only appears on screens wider than 900 pixels.

  • Gig Calendar - a list of the next 10 gigs from the weekly WhatsOn programme appears on the righthand side of most pages that don't require a full width display.

A full calendar page should be coming later this month - if you know of local musical events that are not listed or for inclusion in the weekly WhatsOn programme then plesse email details to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The deadline for the Sunday update is 5pm on Friday.
